Advantages of DigiLocker

Our Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Digital Locker which is also called as DigiLocker. So, here in this article, we see what the advantages of DigiLocker are!!

DigiLocker is an online storage facility to provide by the government of India and to store your important documents. You can upload the documents as Educational Certificates, Pan Card, Driving License, Voter ID Cards and more. The DigiLocker is linked to your Aadhar Number. You may not need to carry physical documents as applying for jobs.

To use the DigiLocker, you need to scan physical copy of a Certificate like Pan Card, Aadhar Card, Driving License and upload in the DigiLocker app with their e-signature. An e-Signature is similar to self-attesting one’s documents

  • Safety of Documents

Is your documents are in safe place? Have you worried about losing them? Then here comes DigiLocker which provides security to all your documents whenever you need them.

  • e-Signature

e- Signature is nothing but digital signature; it also called as self – attestation and is a very secure way of digitally signing electronic documents online. Your Aadhar number and digital signatures will be interlinked. Once if you have digital signature on the DigiLocker server, then you don’t need to get your signature verified all the time

And the major advantage of the DigiLocker is that there is no cost for your digital signature, where as if you use a private digital signature, you need to pay an annual fee.

  • Paperless documentation

With this DigiLocker, you can go paperless. Government of India is trying to push paperless governance to the higher phase and planning to save paper.

After registration in DigiLocker, you can upload scanned copies of all your necessary documents like, 12th mark sheet, Graduation & Post graduation certificates, PAN card, Driving Licences, Aadhaar card, PAN Card, Passport, RC, Electricity Bill and many more at one place safely.

Suppose in case, you were asked for legal documents for verification by Government agencies while applying for any service or exam. Then you can just forward the locker number, that’s it. The agencies will verify. Indirectly you can get rid of carrying original documents and photocopies

  • Documents

Once documents can store in an electronic format, you no need to carry the documents. You need to provide URL of the concerned government department to the requesting agency for verification. Now getting and carrying the physical copy of important government documents is an exhausting process and risky too because the loss of even a single document can create a big trouble to an individual in re-issuing.

  • Reduce Frauds

As per today’s world, the Documents are beginning Cooperation at different touch points, so digitization will eliminate all such risks. Documents can share in secure and safe manner.

At the same point, you need to make sure that you should not share your DigiLocker or Aadhar details with any one and even you should not access DigiLocker with Public Wi-fi hotspot or through other computers.

Storage Space

The DigiLocker will have initial storage of 10MB of free space offered to store all e-documents, at present might be too less. So, the government will increase the space to 1 GB for each locker.

  • Access and share

Users can share the documents with other company of government where the documents are required for verification of address or ID proof. In DigiLocker, you can saves these documents widely used as PNG, JPEG, JPG, and PDF file formats which make sharing a copy of the files can easier. However, it shows documents saved by users separately from those issued by a government. Instead, they can show a copy of documents on their Smartphone’s, the traffic police can stop at checkpoints.
